Allina Health Emergency Medical Services is a leader and innovator in pre-hospital emergency medical services and is devoted to providing skilled and compassionate advanced life support, basic life support and scheduled transport in more than 100 Minnesota communities. Nearly 600 paramedics, emergency medical technicians and dispatchers work together to provide service to an area of approximately 1,000 square miles, reaching more than 1 million people annually.

Lead, manage and contribute to high quality emergency medical services (EMS) research and dissemination that aims to optimize and shape the future of EMS care in service to Allina patients, families, and communities, and the broader community of EMS stakeholders. The EMS Principal Research Scientist has primary accountability for the development and execution of the EMS research agenda at Allina Health. The principal scientist will facilitate, collaborate in, and direct research design, analysis and writing efforts with clinician partners and external collaborators, and is responsible for the dissemination of research activity and findings to both internal and external audiences. The principal scientist provides leadership for research study teams, oversight for day-to-day research operations, mentors research scientists and clinician research partners, and supervises research staff/students.
Master’s degree in epidemiology, evaluation, measurement, or related scientific discipline with 6-8 years professional experience or doctorate in epidemiology, measurement, or related scientific discipline with 2-3 years professional experience
Possesses a comprehensive understanding of clinical, health services and/or population health research methodsExperience overseeing the development of and implementation of research studies including identifying research design, developing data collection tools and procedures, analyzing data, managing study personnel and budgetHighly developed and proven medical writing skills, including significant experience serving as the lead author of peer-reviewed publicationsWorking knowledge of general statistical methods, experience in healthcare data analysis/reporting and 4-5 years of statistical programming in SAS, SPSS or STATAExperience as a significant contributor to healthcare-related grant applications or research proposals, including methods/design, project timeline and implementation, data analysis, and dissemination sectionsKnowledge of IRB processes and guidelines for the ethical conduct of researchDemonstrated ability to form and lead multi-disciplinary and collaborative research teamsExperience in conceptualizing, building, and leading long-term research programs with multiple streams of inquiryWorking knowledge of EMS data streams Well-developed computer skills including: proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, use of online medical library search engines, data collection applications, and citation management toolsStrong interpersonal and communication skills, including experience presenting research results to professional and lay audiencesExcellent mentorship and supervisory skillsAbility to multitask, prioritize and work under tight deadlines
